shame on us for all we have done

Yes. I made an Assassin's Creed playlist.
Look, I know I'm obsessed, shut up - I was just - just listening to Lonely Soul and thinking about how religion and control recur as themes in AC, and whether they were going to maintain that into ACII despite the change in setting. And, um. Then I must have...poked through my iTunes and...found a few songs that I, well, sort of think are appropriate and -
Well, I should warn that this is less based on the actual Assassin's Creed, and more the Assassin's Creed that exists inside my head, which may or may not resemble the real one precisely; I'm not sure on that point.
But hey, it's an excuse to post some music! ...And have a post! ...Boy, I haven't been very good at this whole LJ business, have I?
Group Four - Massive Attack
I imagine watching the same room with the same subjects and scientists doing the same damn things for the same number of hours every day must get incredibly boring. But at least the things they do are intellectually exciting!
I see to bolts
For key to locks
No boats are rocked
I'm free to roam
Among dummy screens
And magazines
God Bless - Lamb
Especially for the subject. Especially for this particular subject. I always feel kind of sorry for numbers one-through-sixteen; they were probably ancestors of beggar-ladies, box-carriers, or Guard Murdered by Altair for the Player's Depraved Giggles #634.
You're gonna feel the wind at your heels, you know
You're gonna feel a sparkle in your steps
Stealth Mass in F#M - Apollo Four Forty
Living in the past.
Harrowdown Hill - Thom Yorke
Abstergo, whatever they say, whatever they intend, are not good people and it shows. The problem comes in when you try to figure out how, exactly, that makes them different from anyone else you know.
Can you see me when I'm running?
Away from them
Away from them
I can't take the pressure
No one cares if you live or die
They just want you gone
The Clock - Thom Yorke
They keep on pushing. It would be nice if we knew what they're pushing for, what they need it for, and if we weren't absolutely certain they're going to discard us as soon as they've found it, but then there's nothing that we can do to push back, is there?
Time is running out for us
Zero-Sum - Nine Inch Nails
But, in the end, it's almost understandable - considering what they're pushing against. You saw it in the past, and it's continued into the now, for all our so-called advancement.
The question, then, is whether stopping what they want to stop is worth everything we'll give up, in the end.
And all of this is a consequence
Brought on by our own hand
If you believe in that sort of thing
And did you ever really find
When you closed your eyes
Any place that was still
And at peace
Bonus: Lonely Soul - UNKLE & Julian Ashcroft
Because whatever their other faults, Ubi Montreal's advertising rocks.
There's no secret to living
Just keep on walking
There's no secret to dying
Just keep on flying

Date: 2009-08-31 03:44 am (UTC)Also, "The Clock" is awesome. I won't lie, the title makes me think of the clocktower in T:DS, but that might be because I haven't played Assassin's Creed. It has such a cool, desperate feel to it. i really, really like this song. A LOT.
And I love how floaty and groovey and oddly ...James Bond in a cocktail lounge "Group 4" is. Possibly I am just too tired for descriptions tonight.
OH GOD Zero-Sum is so weirdly atmospheric and creepy. I wasn't sure what I thought at first, and I'm still not sure I'll listen to it on a regular basis at all but it's one of those songs I have to keep just because. ...and I like how the background is alternatively creepy and uplifting.
Ooh, ooh, I really like "Lonely Soul" too. Very good music for listening while working on preparations for a lab you're going to teach on Tuesday!
I kinda wish I'd played Assassin's Creed just so I can relate this back to the game some how. Alas.

Date: 2009-09-02 12:30 pm (UTC)Well, this is a playlist for the overarching story beyond Altair's story. So, uh, it's less about situations in the game and more provoking a mood because the metaplot is really sparse and leaves a lot of questions open. Um, think a weird, brightly-lit prison, mysteries, and bad guys whose intentions which resemble the intentions of the good guys to an extent that is worrying, and you've pretty much got it minus the specifics.
Also, wow, there's religious subtext in these songs a lot. I can't remember if that was intentional.
Anyway, yay! Thank you! I'm so pleased to know you like them, I'm terribly paranoid when I do these things that nobody ever thinks they're cool except me. Like, secretly you're off being awesome while every now and then you glance over at me and go, "What's Nano doing, is she making macaroni pictures? ...Oh, no, she's eating the glue."
Man, someday I'll come over there hauling my 360, my games and my box-copies of TDP and TMA and play EVERY ONE OF THEM IN FRONT OF YOU. And gabble endlessly about them while doing so. Then I'll steal all of your pies.

Don't assassinate your students, Squeem! I'm sure they don't mean to be stupid!

Ahaha, I've given up trying to be cool and instead go for wacky fun times (that are hopefully fun and not just boring) because it's less scary that way. XD Anyway, you are totally awesome! I worry the same thing about you. Except... except with video games and instead of eating the glue, I'm... I don't know, actually putting glue on the disc? (DO NOT WORRY I AM NOT DOING THIS.)
I think my analogy fell way, way apart there. But I think you are awesome! (Also, I laughed so hard at your analogy. I hope that was your intent and I'm not being a cruel, cruel person.)

HURRY UP AND GET OVER HERE. WE HAVE A COUCH AND EVERYTHING and also an air mattress

Wait, so you mean all those scalpels were really for them to use? Hmm. I may have to think about this for my next class.

That is likely because it is! ...Man, I know saying these things makes you want to play it, but as a game AC really is pretty badly broken. I just really enjoy analysing the ways in which it doesn't work because I have that sort of brain, and I like talking about it because it's got a lot of layers, as a story. And it's full of prettiness.
Everything I do is for my personal amusement, so I don't mind at all!
You know, I think I might start planning more seriously to travel the world once I'm done with my course, because the world is awesome.
