So I get a paid account and crow about it and the first thing I do is...post a meme stolen from
twilit_wanderer . YEAH, CONTENT.
Comment here and I'll pick three of your fandoms. You have to repost this with your answers to the questions in your journal.
1. The character I first fell in love with: I’m afraid I first watched Beast Wars when I was nine (more than a decade ago now, yikes), and either the channel I watched it on aired the episodes out of order or I just didn’t catch them all. I don’t remember much, but I do remember that the plot never made a damn bit of sense to me. Sadly, I suspect I liked Terrorsaur for his colours (look, I was nine). However, if we talk the first character I can remember falling in love with, that would be either Dinobuttbot or verminRattrap.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Optimus Primal. There is nothing about his stalwart and embarrassingly overdramatic leader persona in the first episode that makes you think he could be a STONE COLD BADASS, but he surely is one.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Um…I couldn’t bring myself to give a damn about Tigerhawk? But he appears for two episodes and then explodes, so I don’t know if he counts. And although Depth Charge’s death scene was perfect, the character himself didn’t exactly light my world on fire.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Honestly, every time I poke my head into fandom these days I see something that makes want to put the finishing touches on my orbital doom laser, so I don’t know what the prevailing opinions are. I think Blackarachnia’s cool?
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Accuse me of being impossibly shallow if you must, but I loathed most of the transmetal forms and any character who got a particularly hideous one had to endure me wincing every time they appeared onscreen forever after. Even Optimus. EVEN BLACKARACHNIA.
6. The character I would shag anytime: Er. They’re robots with animal bits. That does not seem sanitary. Can I skip this question?
7. The character I'd want to be like: Optimus Primal, can I be badass and clever and charming and adapt to responsibility like you one day? That would be great, thanks.
8. The character I'd slap: Silverbolt is big doofy Paladin fabulousness, but he needs to be beaten about the head and shoulders with the cluebat.
9. A pairing that I love: OH A QUESTION ASSUMING I CARE ABOUT SHIPPING, THAT’S ADORABLE.
10. A pairing that I despise: AND ANOTHER, OOOZY WOOGY WOO, WHO’S A SILLY QUESTION.
11. My five favorite characters: Dinobot, Optimus, Rattrap, Megatron (yeeeeesssss), Wazzzzzpinator.
12. My five least favorite characters: (Note, these aren’t characters I hate so much as characters I didn’t find especially interesting.) Dinobot II, Scorpowhatsis, Tigerhawk, Tigertron, Terrorsaur DESPITE MY NINE YEAR OLD CAPTIVATION
13. Which character I am most like:INFERNO WASPINATOR Actually probably a combination of Waspinator and Silverbolt. I love my overdramatic heroism, but oh my god look at that bug.
14. My deep, dark fandom secret: That I own none of the toys, forgot the first live action movie completely the moment I left the cinema and found even the trailers of the second to be incomprehensible messes.
1. The first character I fell in love with: Of course it was Auron. How could it not be Auron?
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Tidus – and do please forgive my usage of this word, but it seems the most appropriate – is a der-brain. But I like him anyway; he’s just so ridiculous and so many horrible things happen to him that I couldn’t work up the hatred.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Sorry, Kimahri, but I still kind of have a grudge against you for kicking my butt so many times in the FFX demo, and I could never make your abilities work for me.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Come on, fanboys, Tidus isn’t that bad. He’s no more pathetic than Cloud, when you get right down to it.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: I used to be a massive gibbering fangirl of Lulu, but not so much any more?
6. The character I would shag anytime: Oh my god look at that bug.
7. The character I'd want to be like: Yuna. Someday, I too will summon dead people in the form of giant monster things to do my bidding! (Thanks to Squeem’s game posts, when I finally get up the motivation to play FFX again, it’ll be for Yuna.)
8. The character I'd slap: Tidus is another one of those people who needs a beating with the cluebat, but I am also firmly of the opinion that Seymour needs a good kick in the balls. Yeah dude, your mother died to protect you. So did Harry Potter’s, and I don’t see him destroying the world in an orgy of megalomaniacal nihilism and being needlessly creepy at awesome summoners, do you?
9. A pairing that I love: Yuna/Tidus, both because it is cute and because it made me cry at the end.
10. A pairing that I hate: I’VE GOT A LOVELY BUNCH OF COCONUTS, DEE DEE DEE DEE, THERE THEY ARE A-STANDING IN THE ROOOOOOAD
11. My five favorite characters: Auron, Yuna, Jecht, Tidus, Shiva
12. My five least favorite characters: Random One-line NPC #1 – 4, Seymour
13. Which character I am most like: Is there an NPC in there who reads way too many books and bursts into flames upon contact with sunlight? BECAUSE THAT’S MEEEEEEEEE
14. My deep, dark fandom secret: Probably that I actually loved this game; it’s one of only two Final Fantasy games I’ve ever bothered to finish.
1. The first character I fell in love with: Sokka. Sokka. And also: Sokka.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Azula. I was one of those people incredibly leery about her abrupt entrance, but then she turned out to be nine kinds of awesome and sixteen kinds of terrifying and three kinds of sad in the finale.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: There is no one I do not love!
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: I don’t know what the fanbase’s problem with Mai is. She’s awesome.
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer: See above point re: not loving.
6. The character I would shag anytime: BIG ONES, SMALL ONES, SOME AS BIG AS YOUR HEAD
7. The character I'd want to be like: Iroh. Tea-loving, wise, and insanely badass.
8. The character I'd slap: …I kind of want to slap Koh, but I’m pretty sure that would be a bad idea. So I’ll go with Ozai.
9. A pairing that I love: GIVE THEM A TWIST, A FLICK OF THE WRIST, THAT’S WHAT THE SHOWMAN SAID
10. A pairing that I hate: I swore I would not mention this pairing ever again so as to continue to hold no feeling for it but the most frigid apathy. This is still in effect.
11. My five favorite characters: ALL OF THEM
12. My five least favorite characters: Most of the fanbase? Does that count?
13. Which character I am most like: You remember that researcher who went with Team Avatar to find that awesome library and willingly trapped himself in there forever rather than leave? Yeah.
14. My deep, dark fandom secret: I still sort of ship Azula/Sylar a bit. It would be terrifying and oh so awesome right up until the mutual backstab and mental breakdown. You know this to be true.

this comment is ridiculous, i'm sorry, HOW ARE YOU
Date: 2010-02-20 03:54 am (UTC)I love FFX and it remains my favorite Final Fantasy game. Yeah! I SAID IT. S-Sorry, Tactics. Haters to the left.
AZULAR!!! What, shut up, it makes perfect sense. They are ~made for each other.~
There is no one I do not love!
E-Even Ozai? (Not that I'm judging. I'm just saying.)
is no more ridiculous than the original post, surely
Date: 2010-02-20 05:10 am (UTC)Even if you hated everything else about it: gorgeous music! Servants of the North Pole, man! ARGUMENTS, I WILL HEAR NONE.
They’d do so many horrible, horrible things. The screaming of innocents, the chains, the flames – oh so many flames! It would be beautiful.
It's true, I don't much like Ozai, but I don't think anybody likes Ozai! But you’re right, I ought have made that clearer: I love everybody but Ozai. He is the Loser Lord.
Would you like fandoms? I will give you fandoms!

Date: 2010-02-20 03:58 am (UTC)I am curious: are you not answering the shagging questions because a) they are characters and your brain doesn't work like that, b) you just ain't that interested, c) you don't want people to know, d) other? I am just curious because I always have tough times with those. Like, I can stare at Fran's backside for hours on end, but I don't want to actually have sex with her.
ALSO what is the Avatar pairing that you have frigid apathy for? I'm kind of curious! I will not judge! (Since I don't really care! Unless it's something really weird, like Iroh/Aang, in which case I will join you in your frigid apathy.)
Hook me up with this meme! I HAVE COMMENTED

Date: 2010-02-20 05:11 am (UTC)Mostly because...yeah, my brain doesn’t really work that way. I can find characters plenty hot (Fran does indeed have an amazing ass, as does Ezio Auditore da Firenze. His girlfriend, um, one of them, is hot also) but honestly the idea of wanting to have actual sex with them is ridiculous to me. Also, most of the time the characters I like/am interested in are evil, crazy and/or crazevil and the thought of even being within five hundred kilometres of them is deeply frightening (see: Azula, Faith, Sylar, Hester Shaw, SHODAN, the Joker, stupid virus man(cough), James Sunderland). Or they’re just plain old bastards (see: Garrett, the Prince, Ezio, Dinobot, Manny Calavera). Of course, this often does not stop people from wanting to have sex with them! Even the skeleton, the robot and the virus man who eats people! So I don’t know.
Zuko/Katara. I’m aware that there are plenty of very awesome people who ship it, and every pairing is valid, and my canon is not your canon. Never interested me, don’t want to hear about it. I just – got fed up with the people who kept insisting it would happen and got all righteously pissed when it didn’t, you know?
Metal Gear Solid 3! Silent Hill (you can pick one or just go with all of them, whatever you like)! Aaaaaaaand Buffy!
It was! Though oddly enough I finished that one after FFX. I came into Final Fantasy very, very late and it was after I’d been totally acclimated to FPS and platformers. This may explain everything about my taste in games forever.

Date: 2010-02-20 05:48 am (UTC)Anyway! Now that I have babbled all my crazy to you, haha, yes, I totally agree and am glad I am not the only member of the club. And also, yes, totally, practically all the characters I love deeply I would not want to know in real life.
Re: Zuko/Katara I... am ambivalent to it? I mean, I can sort of see why people would ship it, and I bet somewhere out there is a good fic for it, but it is not something I would go looking for. And I am constantly, forever fed up with people who do not understand that their headcanon is not Actual Canon. I mean, I know that headcanon is important? But it should not be forced on other people, and it should definitely not take precedence over reality.
OH MAN, I am pretty excited to see what my answers will be to Silent Hill. It will be a surprise even to me! (Also I am totally excited to babble about the others. <3)
What did you think of FF7? I'm curious, what with your background of FPS and platformers.

Date: 2010-02-20 12:32 pm (UTC)Augh, totally, why would you hang enjoyment of anything on a ‘ship to the point where it not becoming canon makes you feel BETRAYED BY THE CREATORS? That I find romantic pairings as a whole to be vastly overrated by fandom doesn’t help. (I may have been spending too much time in the Assassin’s Creed fandom, which keeps ignoring the canon’s awesome ladies in favour of temporally baffling slash. The urge has been rising to scream “I don’t care! I’m just here to see people in pretty clothes climb on stuff and stab things stylishly! Also, stop calling Altair ‘Alty’ before I murder the lot of you! Adjshhagafkjh!”)
Yay! I look forward to your answers.
As to FF7 (warning, Western gamesnobbery ahead): Well, on the one hand, I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy fighting the same battle over and over and over and over and over, boss fights that take five hours with no save points, or the constant seething paranoia that I’ve missed some vital ability or backstory whose absence will totally screw me later on requiring me to have a FAQ open on my lap. Not at all a fan of the way the player character is glued to the ground, either. (That’s…just me; you may have noticed acrobatics can and will cause me to ignore all flaws a game has in favour of jumping around the environment like a deranged monkey on a pogo-stick, giggling all the while.) Also, it’s dated.
On the other, it’s remarkably impressive as a game and a piece of story-telling…egad, thirteen years later? It deserved its acclaim. Aeris’ death made my cry, there’s some glorious atmospheric bits (like when you escape the cells in Shinra to see blood on damn near everything, hear the creepy-creepy heartbeat music, and then find the Big Bad up to that point pinned to his desk with a sword; or seeing the Midgar Zolom impaled on the tree), Yuffie is awesome, Cloud is an adorable dork as well as screwed up in so many ways augh god what the hell, I loved the City of the Ancients, and of course the music is amazing. A lot of the environments make me wish someone had made a game where I could actually climb on them. I’d give a couple of fingers for a fully-explorable Midgar, for example.
I watched Advent Children, also. It made no sense, but there sure was a lot of fighting!
(I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR BABBLING ON THIEF AND SOTC (cough)I mean if you want to do that, I'm just trying to think of a meme that would let you.)

Date: 2010-02-20 07:23 am (UTC)Haha, ooh, the live action movies. Even a lot of us who do like them admit it's mostly because we're easily distracted by explosions and the pretty robots and cars. (Weirdly, but not unhappily, I don't see a lot of Blackarachnia hate! And Terrorsaur still has a lot of fans, so.) I was going to put a million more comments about Beast Wars here and then I thought better of it.
...WAIT HOW CAN ANYONE NOT LIKE MAI. REALLY? WHAT. Huh. (Is the Avatar: The Last Airbender fanbase really as lunatic and terrifying as it's always seemed to be? I've never been brave enough to actually check.)
no subject
Date: 2010-02-20 12:49 pm (UTC)Explosions and pretty robots I can understand, I'm just noooot a fan of the way Micheal Bay directs. I don't care how many hours he spent rendering that robot if I can't tell what it's doing and I don't care why it's doing it. On the other hand, it's hilarious hearing my brother rant about the movies, so I get some enjoyment. (Oh, yay! I guess female characters are so ridiculously rare they have to treasure the ones they have? And, well, Terrorsaur's basically Starscream and Starscream has a lot of fans, so...it makes a kind of sense.) I would not mind these comments at all, feel free to babble!
There's this section of the fandom that haaaaates her because Zuko ends up with her and not
their SuesthemKatara. Basically the same sort of people who call Ginny Weasely a whore because she dated two guys in one year but praise Hermione Granger as a paragon of virtue. Which is a terrible pity, because Mai's a stone cold badass; I would have thought you'd want all the awesome ladies you get, considering their rarity. (My impressions as a a fringer-dweller are: the shipping wars are mighty and glorious, there's a hideous number of Sues, and like any large fandom, the crazy increases in proportion with the total size.)no subject
Date: 2010-02-21 06:17 pm (UTC)I am actually really surprised that you don't love Kimahri! I am not sure why, though.
I think Yuna is one of my favourite characters ever of all time, and probably the one I most want to be like. (Though Scully is still up there! She's just so damn competent.) ♥
FFX is sooooo gooooood, the end.
I don't even know what say about Avatar, it is so great, AVATARRRRR
no subject
Date: 2010-02-22 12:54 pm (UTC)Well, Kimahri's laconic and growly, he completely protective of Yuna, he uses a halberd, he's voiced by John DiMaggio, and he glares at everything...actually, I'm not sure why I don't love him either, those are all characteristics I'm known to go all fangirly over. Hmm. This may merit investigation.
Um, please don't defriend me for saying this, but I...haven't seen any X-Files episodes only the Simpsons parody and I'm pretty sure that doesn’t count. FORGIVE ME
FFX is sooooo gooooood, the end.
I WILL NOT ARGUE.
Man, because of this meme I went on a quest for FFX music, and I'm getting nostalgia chills listening to it. The music when you fight Yuna's Aeons? The song from Mount Gagazet? The music in the aftermath of the Crusaders' attack on Sin? So epic. Ack heck I kind of want to do another game music post now but I shouldn't, I have to finish that AC post.
