So. School.

Since it's so bloody hot right now, school is sort of how I would imagine hell, if I was in a really pedestrian kind of mood and didn't want to think too hard about it. I have to take the bus home nearly every day and then walk a fair way to my house, in the blazing sunlight, with no opportunity for shade or rest unless I would like to sit on the ground. Imagine a good five minutes of stifling humanity followed by baking very slowly with a heavy weight attached to your back and you have my way home. Gnah. I'm all red and peely.

In other news, since I'm getting addicted to comic book movies, I decided to watch 'Constantine'.The one with Keanu Reeves. I've never read the Hellblazer comics, but I have read Sandman, where John appears a few times.

Okay, so, let me say right here that I don't hate Reeves - he's certainly not the best of actors, not by a long shot, but he tries hard, and he's pretty. He did a more or less okay job, really, provided he didn't talk too loudly. The biggest problem I had with him was that he wasn't English. Or blond.

The movie itself was pretty good. Interesting if a tad eyebrow raising plot, cool characters, and some quite spiffy special effects. I looooove Gabriel - s/he was so very, very smiley. And Satan. Satan is the best part.

Hell, too, was quite cool - it looks like the pausing moments of the end of the world, with searing nuclear wind screaming through a place that looks like here, but rusted and broken and fiery. It made my inner weird-landscape-o-phile scream in glee.

One thing I've noticed about myself is that I notice dumb, small details. Never mind the big picture, the composition, the colour scheme - the writer in me finds the most silly, insignificant thing imaginable. Say in the hell scenes. What was I looking at? What was I thinking about? Certainly not the brainless, eyeless, soulless demons stalking moment by moment towards the innocent girl. No, I was busy pointing at Reeves' chest while my brain yelled 'His tie is flapping in the WINDS of HELL!'

With precisely that emphasis.

I worry about myself sometimes.

Since I was on a shooting-shit kick I also pulled out my brother's copy of Equilibrium. I had never even heard of it. I didn't even know what the title meant until I looked it up. He told me it was good, that I'd "probably like it," and absolutely nothing else. He was right.

The critics seem happy to crush it beneath their heels, and on IMDB they either love it, or hate it with a blinding, all-consuming passion. I think it was cool. I LIKED the total lack of wire use - the fights looked quite neat and the flips didn't look like the characters were help up by magic or something equally ludicrous. I don't care that they seem to consist of 'Christain Bale waves his hands and everyone falls down', they were still neat. Also, little slo-mo.

It's not perfect, but I like Bale. He's a better actor than Keanu Reeves, although that's not hard.

Also, gun-fu! That was so weird and stupid and unlikely and cool!
