As my first post of the new year, I will talk about cooking!

It's something I've discovered about myself: you know how some people find menial tasks soothing? Like folding clothes or scrubbing floors or ironing? Apparently for me, stirring is rather Zen. And I don't even make very complicated dishes. I'm no cook - the most I can do is a stir-fry with noodles and sauce from a packet, or maybe tacos. But chopping and stirring and adding and measuring calms my nerves.

I'm even usually barefoot when I cook, although I imagine the 'woman's place' thing is spoiled by the iPod playing game soundtracks and my QANTM T-shirt.

Ah well. The good thing about cooking is that I'm very fussy, so doing it myself ensures I use what I like. Smells are nice, too.

In other news: own a sword. It's plastic and shiny.

Also own: Nightwatch. So far, is fabulous.

There was also something here about how I would like to write a villain who is actually the protagonist, because he's much worse than the antagonist and nobody punished him and he doesn't like that, but I'm not sure how to articulate it, so! Uh. There it is. He would also possibly be a dork. The world needs more fictional dorks.

Cooking is always an excellent way to start out the new year. And heck, it's just an excellent way to start a new day. I don't really do much cooking, although I keep wanting to learn more. So far, my repertoire basically consists of: chocolate chip cookies, ginger bread cookies, and caramel filled brownies. Oooh! And the most delicious potato salad ever (it's [livejournal.com profile] kadrin's recipe).

I don't think I know what Nightwatch is. Care to explain?

Also, I was randomly looking at some fanart and came across an El Dorado sketch by [livejournal.com profile] vejiita4eva. It's the second picture down. Word of warning, though -- if you go looking through her memories, you'll see she has another El Dorado fanart, but it is, um, really rather slashy. (This one isn't, or at least, it's ambiguous enough that it doesn't need to be interpreted that way.)
