I don't know, if you're going to play any game that involves horrible space monster zombie things invading a ship, you should really play System Shock 2. Much more interesting. Dead Space is a game that has been done before, much better.
DS is really only frightening if you still find jump scares frightening - if monsters SUDDENLY JUMPING THROUGH THE WALL AND ALL UP IN YOUR FACE makes you freak out. For me, it doesn't. Like, even a little bit. I twitch a bit, and then calmly blow their legs out from under them. I've played too much Thief and Silent Hill and System Shock, where the fear was more slow creeping paranoia and dread based on the fact that the environment itself actively seemed to hate you and you couldn't trust your own perceptions.
