Oh god my life.
'Kay so as it happens I'm going to be moving again to an apartment in the city, much closer to the college, when my lease runs out next month. If you want, you can call me a crazy person for doing this three-quarters of the way through the trimester, and you'd be right. In short, AKDJJASHDHSGD
In other news, am now really digging Jekyll. It is occasionally (well, frequently) full of cheese, but it is delicious cheese, and I think I'm a bit in love with James Nesbitt. And so many of the characters are interesting and lovable; I don't know if it's because they all have awesome snark, but it often seems that way.
-Serious wow for the transition between being Jackman and being Hyde. His whole aspect switches itself around and he is so obviously a different man who just happens to be occupying the same body. I could go on for ages about their hugely separate physicalities, but, just, god, watch any scene with Jackman and any scene with Hyde. Jackman is contained in stillness; he moves and speaks very precisely; it's almost as though he's been bottled. You don't get the impression that he really knows how to cut loose. Hyde is all movement, all easy power; he expresses with the whole of himself, never holds back on letting everybody know what he wants or how he feels. Look at him the first time Benjamin talks to him. He positively radiates potential violence and petty thwarted rage. Watch Jackman explain to Katherine her job - he's so resolutely calm you just know his id's gonna be a real heck of a thing. Id and...Ego? Superego? I think it's the latter but my Freud's kinda rusty.
-In which case I'm wondering who the Ego is. I have a theory (could be a demon) but we'll watch some more and see how right I am.
-Moffat's little game with the reveal of Hyde? Nice. And he and Nesbitt playing it up to the hilt when it actually happens, also nice. I love Hyde's glee, obviously for finally being let out and finding fun before him, but also like he knows he's performing, Hey everybody aren't you bored of that doctor guy yeah me too here's some violence and sex and popculture references I know that's what you like.
-Hyde is made out of equal parts cheese, awesome and deep, deep up-fuckedness. I can believe he's all the dark parts.
-Akhhfgashgag creepiest grin ever.
-God bless cheerful asshole villains and the defenestrations thereof. I like that I can use the word 'defenestration' about this show.
-A dark side that likes Disney movies! That is absolutely bizarrely adorable! Oh god I don't know if it's my maternal instinct or some shit that's making me want to pinch his blood-slick cheeks and ruffle his hair, but it's deeply terrifying.
"Tickles!" Oh hell. I can't be fangirling another psychopath. I just can't. Help me.
-What is it with Hyde and lions? Is there some sort of symbolism here I'm not getting other than the whole "killing the head lion makes the lionesses go into heat" thing he likes to tell people for great creepy? Hmm.
-I am fangirling Tom a bit too, but it's the sort where I want to put him in a blanket and give him tea and a nice book and lots of hugs and make sure that nothing bad happens to him or his family again ever. I think it was the expression of sheer disbelieving horror that crossed his face when he saw Eddie in the cage; even remembering it makes my heart break for him.
-Tom's wife is made of awesome, and I'm totally not saying that just because she has my name.
-I want to read ten thousand fics of Min and Miranda, the lesbian detective agency, as they solve crimes and mock things and are charming and lovely. ♥ Incidentally I like how in British television everybody looks real – still quite attractive, but in a variety of ways rather than the same old Hollywood perfect skin and smile.
-...I may have slightly went searching for Jekyll vids and found one that...really wasn't all that amazing, but the song was perfect. And the song in question may have been a Korn song. And I may now have downloaded it with the same sort of hunted expression and nervous glances that accompany downloading porn in public. I may, in fact, be a completely ridiculous person.
Overall it's a great show, snappily-written and well-acted, with a bit of visual flair (though they need to lay off the shaky-cam and the wire work). Going to do more AUUUGH ESSAY now, but I love to hear the thoughts of anyone else who's watched it before I embark upon the next episode.
