The greatest soldier versus the greatest assassin? Well it would depend on what stage of his life Snake was at, and what weapons he was allowed - Altair's never seen a gun in his life, but he could fairly easily kill the heck out of a dozen armed guards.
Considering Snake just seems to win no matter who he's fighting, though, I like to think they'd put down their gun/swords/knifes etc., shake hands and sit down to discuss philosophy, war, global conspiracies, free will, and defeated opponents who just won't shut the hell up and die already. Snake can speak Arabic, can't he?
