I aten't dead.

I...don't know how long it's going to be before I get regular internet access again, so this entry will a) cover a lot of topics and b) be rather brief about them. I really really wish I could reply to your comments and I will when I can, I promise, but in the meantime:

[livejournal.com profile] kadrin: Yes. Yes it is. Also, a fun thing to do is to pick the exact moment in 6 Days a Stranger when Yahztee gave the fans the game's first groinkick. You can just see the evil grin that must have appeared when he had the idea.

[livejournal.com profile] thebaconfat My old address is fine! I don't actually know how to get mail for my new one yet. I'm still settling in. (Shadow of the Colossus should be played by everyone in the world, being the only game that made me button mash madly and weep helplessly at the same time.) What is this I hear about an MGS poster?

[livejournal.com profile] squeemu Yay! It's a really great series, especially since it was made by one guy in AGS. I hope you can cope; I mean it's not the crawling dread of something like the Cradle, of course, but nonetheless rather creepy and tragic. I can't wait 'til you get to Trilby's Notes! My posters, currently, are an Avatar: The Last Airbender poster I got from Supanova, a massive Half-Life 2 poster I got from Hyper, a Sweeney Todd poster I randomly found in a magazine whose name I forgot, and a movie!Doctor Octopus. (I was a pathetic drooling fangirl for him, once. I think it was the mechanical arms.)

Anyway, QANTM.

The great thing about QANTM, if you haven't already guessed, is the feeling that I am not alone. My old town is not very geek friendly at all, and the people there are...look, I can completely picture something like Sandford in Hot Fuzz happening there, except there would be more bibles and less Simon Pegg.

Whereas at QANTM, one of the instructors – the one teaching my Fundamentals of Drawing unit, actually – worked on the movie Balto. People organize games of Dungeons and Dragons or even World of Darkness between lectures. There are Penny Arcade comics pinned up on the notice board, and my lecturer actually wrote the words "nom nom nom" next to an essay topic. People come up and start talking with me for no real reason and we have similar interests to discuss, and most everyone thinks my hat is cool.

It is bizarre and somewhat alarming, yet deeply thrilling. We'll just have to see if I still feel this way when we start working.

So I went to see Jumper.

MOVIE: Teleporting is pretty cool, isn't it?
ME: Yeah! It totally is.
MOVIE: It's so cool that we don't need a compelling main character or plot or motives or anything.
ME: ...Uh.
MOVIE: The villains kill Jumpers because of god or something.
ME:
GRIFFIN: I am pretty much the only interesting character and I die stupidly.
ME: I'm done here.

I don't know what all that nonsense was with Hayden Christenson was about. I could have watched Griffin be adorably fucking crazy for two hours, easy. Oh well.

I'll see all you guys when - whenever I get Internetz, I guess! I hope it's soon, I miss you all heaps.

Wasn't the game's first groinkick basically the title screen?

At the very least, it was somewhere around the time That Guard showed up and was a jerk. And of course we all wheezed and said "thank you sir may i have another?" Except those people who want Trilby to redeem the Tall Man and both of them to kill the Big Bad. They get the missing the point trophy.

Also, if you ask me, Doctor Octopus was mostly fangirlable because of his deep, expressive eyes.

Oooh, I bet an Avatar poster could be full of awesome and pretty. Hooray for posters! And for some reason, my mind just compared Doctor Octopus with Agent Smith from the Matrix. Hmm. Something about the mechanical arms thing combined with the various mechanical aspects from the Matrix? I dunno.

Yeah, I just found A.J. in the pool and then had another nightmare. Fun times! But so far I'm managing! (Except instead of playing more today, I am instead going to go play some more Thief. ...except not more of the Cradle. I just got the really strong urge to run around the City for awhile when I was on the bus today.)

Oh man, QANTM sounds like the most amazing of amazing. That is awesome.

Good luck getting Internetz soon! We all miss you heaps too!
