"G'luck in your struggles, chummer."

I HAVE SHADOWRUN!
Igoogled a Genesis emulator and a rom totally did the legal thing and went out and bought an obsolete game console and cartridge. I haven't gotten very far just yet, I think, I picked the decker archetype for no particular reason other than that I was amused by how dorky Joshua looked wielding a keyboard. I retrieved Michael's stuff from the hotel (OH THE IRONY) and had my picture randomly taken and then ended up being shot a little bit by the orange guys.
I also sort of accidentally punched a Rat Shaman. I really should have checked the controls beforehand.
SO WHAT ARE THESE HALLOWEENER GUYS? WHY DO THEY LIVE AMIDST HORRIBLE RADIATION? ALSO ALSO ARE THE ORANGE GUYS LONE STAR? MAN, GHOULS. HOW DO I CHANGE GUN? WHEN DO I GET TO MAKE THINGS GO BZZT OR HACK STUFF, I DUNNO. THESE JOHNSON GUYS, I TELL YA. WHAT WHAT ASYLUM?
...I get the feeling it'll be more fun when I've opened up more abilities? And it is possible to do something when you meet the orange guys apart from fight or run away? They're really starting to get on my nerves, and it's annoying that you can't enter buildings when you're being shot up.
I really like the music, though. It's kind of simultaneously cool and nostalgic. Also, it's neat how everyone exhibits so much personality in the space of a few screens, and the word 'Shadowrun' is inexplicably awesome.

Null sweat, chum.
Date: 2006-11-27 02:20 am (UTC)I heart dorky looking Joshua. He looks far too competent as a shaman or samurai. Hee! Ricky. Oh, Ricky. I accidentally shot Marrs one time, which, uh. He started moving around the bar and I panicked and fled.
THE ORANGE GUYS ARE ACTUALLY THE HALLOWEENERS! Lone Stars are blue and gold, although they kind of look like grey and gold, too. (The guy at the bottom of my icon is a Lone Star, for reference.) You'll eventually be able to kill the 'Weenies in one shot, although they're really annoying at first. Have you tried talking to them yet?
You know how to get to the menu, right? On my keyboard, it's the enter key. Anyway, to change guns, you of course first have to have the gun you want to change too. And then you go over to your inventory (on the left, select the gun you want, and press "a", and then a button that says, "Equip/Unequip." So you press "a" again, if the item you currently have selected isn't already equipped and you want it to be. And vice versa. And don't forget to sell your other gun! NUYEN = YAY!)
How many Johnsons have you met? Also, Michael's deck is very crappy, so I wouldn't suggest trying any decking runs until you get a better one.
Yeah, it's annoying you can't get into buildings when you're being shot at. I usually just run around a ton until they're offscreen and then duck into a building. And, um, it's pretty much running or killing them. But sometimes they drop things that you can take!
I think it gets more fun! You'll get to do other jobs besides just running from building to building. It gets better once you get out of Redmond -- other Johnsons offer you other types of jobs. And, you know, you have new places to explore and more things to do. Oh! Do you know how to get a taxi so you can go to other areas? ALSO OH MAN THE GHOULS FREAK THE HELL OUT OF ME.
Also, it's neat how everyone exhibits so much personality in the space of a few screens
Hee!! I'm really glad you like this part, because it's this that really makes me love the game. And, um, if you're pretty meh about this part, you probably won't actually like the game that much. Have you tried going into buildings when you aren't on a run? I love some of the responses you get. Also! Random bit of trivia I learned from

Date: 2006-11-27 04:35 am (UTC)You do not even know how much joy it brings me to see people I know now playing this like ages-old game that I've loved for so many years! I! I can't handle it!
I sort of secretly heart everyone in the game ever.
I really hope you enjoy it!

Date: 2006-11-28 02:54 am (UTC)Um. I'm not sure if it's because I need to level up more or what, but I keep getting completely owned whenever I try to fight anyone and also I ran out of money. I'd like to get a run but I'm stuck in Puyallup without anything for a taxi, and the runs the Johnson in that area gives me are too difficult to pull off at my current level.
I know how Karma works and I asked Boris about Michael and now I don't know what to do next.
...Help?

Date: 2006-11-28 03:11 am (UTC)OMG I HATE THE PEOPLE IN PUYALLUP, ESPECIALLY THE STUPID MAGES, GRR. STUPID MAGIC. Um, anyway! You probably do need to level up some more -- I'd suggest upping your body and firearms stats. It will help getting less pwned. (Also, my favourite runs are the corp runs, but you'll need to get a security badge for it. I think you can get those from a contact Vigore & Jarl give you. And having the "Electronics" skill will definitely help with that, too.)
Have you talked to Haversheen? Or Caleb Brightmore? ALSO do you know about the "Tips and Clues" section of your notebook? That comes in handy!
IT IS OKAY TO SAY YOU THINK IT IS TERRIBLY BORING. I CAN TAKE IT. I do think the beginning is the worst, though, before you're good enough to do the better runs. Also -- ghoul bounty is a fairly decent way to get nuyen, if you hold out for 50 or so for each ghoul. And then you just run around a ton and panic a lot at first. Um... but you might want to get better at shooting things first. I highly recommend the firearms skill. Again.

Date: 2006-11-28 04:12 am (UTC)...SO LAME.
When you only see one of them, it means you have to jack into the Matrix before you can do anything cool to their system. When you see two of them side by side, it means you can quickly use your Electronics skill to turn off the cameras and alarms. (The alarms only stay off you don't make a loud noise though -- such as shooting an unsilenced gun.)
