Filling In The Details
Oct. 3rd, 2006 08:43 amI'm thinking about editing that silly little OKT fic I wrote and putting it up. But, while I was trying to think of a way to make it suck less, it occured to me that the character I picture when writing it was not quite what the book described. I may as well tell you he's the Abhorsen Terciel - that probably won't make sense to you anyway - and since he's a minor-ish characer, he doesn't get described much. So I ended up filling in the details, adding nuances in his appearance and personality that are only marginally canon, and often little more than speculation.
Riddle me this, Intarweb: Who else out there has found themselves doing that? And could you describe what you changed/added? It's always interesting finding out how other people picture characters.
I'll start off. I picture Terciel as being maybe in his early forties or late thirties, going prematurely grey around the temples. A tall, lean, wolfish man who gives off a definite aura of do not fuck with me. All that can be found in the books, but I'm pretty sure I added the earring ('cause earrings are neat!...I explain that it shows the clan of Travelers he belonged to when he was staying with them) and the shoulder-length hair. I know I've assigned an actor to him but I forget which one. I also like to give him an odd sense of humour, a tendency to terrify people by joking about his work, and a deeply hidden frustration that he'll never be anyone but 'Abhorsen'. (Which, incidentally, is why I thought he was so proud of Sabriel - she showed that he was someone else - her father - even if he had to give her up for his work as well.)
