Internet! Hey! Over here!

Yeah, hi. I just wanted to know, right, I just wanted to know - am I the only person in the entire universe who remembers a video game called Medievil (and yes, that is the way the title's officially spelled, just so ya know)? I have a copy of it and the sequel but I think I might be the only one who does. It got remade a little while ago for the PSP as Medievil: Ressurection (you'll hear why in a minute).

I'm asking because for its time it was really quite brilliant - it had a quirky, fun little sense of humour, an awesome premise and a funky style. Try to imagine a hack 'n'slash adventure/platformer with FF7 blocky graphics as directed by Tim Burton and you might get an idea. See, the hero, Sir Daniel Fortescue, is dead. He's been dead a hundred years when you first meet him. He looks it, too - he's basically a skeleton in armour with one big, goofy eye and no lower jaw. Slain in a huge battle against the evil sorcerer Zarok in the first charge, Sir Dan (as he is known) somehow ended up being hailed as the hero of the day - until, of course, the sorcerer returned.

Problem is, Zarok's necromancy resurrected Dan from his hero's grave, and Dan ain't happy. He decides to attempt to live up (so to speak) to his reputation, beat Zarok for real, and gain his place in the Hall of Heroes - if he is not redeaded in the meantime.

It was hilarious. The voice-acting, music and artstyle were all great. I'll never forget the first time I jumped in the wrong place and heard Dan's empty skull hit the roof with a hollow whock. The gargoyles scattered around the place give you advice, update you on history, and berate you constantly for being such an enormous failure. Knock a zombie down and hit it in the head with your GIANT HAMMER and zombie's head actually does go smush. And perhaps the most wonderfully, Dan's lack of lower jaw means that he talks 'hhffff of hlfff hffff.' ( It is hard to type Danspeech phonetically - he has a very deep voice.)

It's just - it's so old. I have no idea who else may have heard of it, or played it, or what. So, internets, do any of you remember? And if you don't, could you listen to this (click on click here) and tell me what you think?

(PS: "My, these google news updates are quite nifty. F'r example, this guy's complaning about...his...durable earbuds.

...Well, never mind.")
