No, brain, we're not allowed to base our design assessment on a Rorschach blot. You attend a college full of nerds. Everyone would know.

In related news, I have a greater appreciation for the works of graphic designers, and anyone who's ever had to create a logo.

Yessssssss.

(All right, yes, the textures are crap. Shushush, I'm trying to bask in productivity here.)

Oh god I am physically ill. It seems to be a head cold, with accompanying sore throat. I hate sore throats, because they always start off as this horrible itch at the back of my throat, maddeningly impossible to eradicate, and I now have other symptoms like runny nose and watery eyes - in short, nnrrrrrgh, whine, I want ice cream and a hug so I can infect others with my misery.

Seeing doctor on Monday. Believe it or not, that is unrelated to feelings of nnrrrrrgh.

Anyways, to cheer myself up I am going to talk about Wall-E. At least part of my rage at its late distribution in Australia is because I missed all the reaction posts, so if anyone knows where I can find any interesting discussion, be awesome and point me toward it. Or if you've seen it yourself, feel free to discuss in comments. My traitorous siblings are unwilling to discuss IRL. (...or, I guess, stand still and be discussed at by me. I'm not obsessed! What makes you think I'm obsessed?)

Anyway, this is kinda going to be full of animation geekitude and spoilers. Stand back. Here we go. )

EDIT: Oh, and I'm downgrading my hiatus to a semi-hiatus! I'll still be commenting a lot less than usual (is it possible to post a negative number of comments? Huh) but I have a lot of half-typed posts about things I'll be putting up at irregular intervals. Hope everything is cool with you guys. ♥

Two things:

Primus: It's only just hit me that I'm going to be moving to the Big City in three months and attending a course that is both everything I've ever wanted out of life and completely mystifying argh help. I am so terrified that they'll take one look at me and know I Am Not The Right Stuff, through their magical animator powers, or something. Shut up, you try being rational about these things when Pixar is the top of your field.

...I can't be jittering with fear for three months, what do I do? What do I do?

Secondus: Assassin's Creed is coming out in a month and I think I may explode from the fangirl. The fact that I recently watched an actual gameplay video in which Altair said a line (a pretty lame one, but a line nonetheless) is not helping.*

Now: Should I or should I not pre-order the special edition, purely for the arhts?

One thing not pertaining to Real Life:

It is, in fact, a meme. I'm bored! And I need writin's.

Request shortfic. Suggest a fandom, a pairing, a character and/or a theme and I will attempt to write words about it. Try to stick to fandoms I am passing familiar with, but I promise I'll take at least a wild swing at anything I don't know about. I can't promise anything about the accuracy, though.

*It was "Come down here! Let us settle this with honour!" Thank you for the mental images of some kind of horrible amalgamation of you and Zuko, Altair. Now go fight people some more so I can drool over your animation, the both of you.

Some things!

Treasure Planet is an awesome movie and I have a giant girlcrush on Captain Amelia.

I am compiling a music post.

I reread Shade's Children. It's still incredibly depressing, but also fantabulous, and hell if I don't feel a terrible kind of pity for [SPOILER] at the end.

Today we went living-space hunting (or inspecting, really) in Brisbane. There were three kinds of units: A (roughly the size of shoeboxes), B (slightly larger than same) and C (perhaps as large as a very large bedroom). Problem: none of them had even remotely enough space for my books, and considering there's a Borders around the corner from which I bought three more, it's a big problem. Hmmm.

It was, however, very interesting inspecting the rooms that people lived in. A few were clearly Studentrooms and thus almost buried in, well, stuff, but one was incredibly, bleakly neat and another had a copy of The Secret on the shelf, at which I pointed and laughed. I'm a bad person.

I am further is System Shock 2, and still more thoroughly creeped out! More, and more spoilery, impressions: )

Also, my laptop now has SHODANface.

First things first: Ubisoft has released a trailer for Assassin's Creed that looks suspiciously like an extremely professional fanvid. Check it out. This game is looking so good, oh man. And I am finding myself even more intrigued by Altair than before – he seems to be...reverent. That's interesting.

(And if anyone can find me that song, I would be eternally grateful. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?)

Replaying The Dark Project is lots of fun and also instructive, and to prove I will ramble spoilerifically about it behind the cut. )

In conclusion, listening to audio commentaries for animated movies has made me realize something. I love animators. They dork out over the most hilariously random things.

I just bought a copy of Skulduggery Pleasant and read it all in one go.

It is not deep.

It is not groundbreaking.

It is, however, very smart, very witty, a masterpiece of lampshaded tropes and more fun than thirty barrels of monkeys, and that should be enough for anyone.

(It would make a brilliant animated movie. I want to make it.)
