It's been raining for the past week. Like, non-stop. Dog is displeased with this state of affairs. Towns up north are being flooded out. I never thought I would miss the searing light of the sun, but oh god humidity.

So let's have ourselves some meme answers and then go find a blanket.

I was going to post this gigantic gamebabble post for Australia Day but the koala round-up went for longer than it usually does this year. I dunno, man, they’re quick little bastards.

So, about that Assassin’s Creed 2.

I have plenty of outlets! Spoilers for the opening. )

You know, it’s probably fortunate that AC2 managed to finally break me of my Thief habits. I probably wouldn't have gotten past Prototype's opening mission, otherwise.

I can see what he saw, I know what he knew, his memories are my memories. Spoilers for...everything. )

One final thing: Attention, bastardisers of Dante’s Inferno. That…is not quite how you effectively mock a fellow developer. Please stop before you dig yourselves in even further.

Here’s how you mock a fellow developer.

Many eons ago, I was given a letter and told to upload five or more songs starting with that letter, and let nobody say I do not eventually get the job done! If you give me, like. A few months, maybe.

This letter was given to me by [livejournal.com profile] thebaconfat, and it was the letter O. You can request one in the comments, if you like!

Yes. I made an Assassin's Creed playlist.

Look, I know I'm obsessed, shut up - I was just - just listening to Lonely Soul and thinking about how religion and control recur as themes in AC, and whether they were going to maintain that into ACII despite the change in setting. And, um. Then I must have...poked through my iTunes and...found a few songs that I, well, sort of think are appropriate and -

Well, I should warn that this is less based on the actual Assassin's Creed, and more the Assassin's Creed that exists inside my head, which may or may not resemble the real one precisely; I'm not sure on that point.

But hey, it's an excuse to post some music! ...And have a post! ...Boy, I haven't been very good at this whole LJ business, have I?

I ate'nt dead. Despite my best efforts, however, when a couple of my neighbors decided it would be awesome to play music and talk at 3 AM at volumes you could probably hear two levels above and below, I was unable to set them on fire with the power of my mind alone. They didn't even have the decency to talk about or listen to anything interesting!

So I think I'm going to post some links to gorgeous fanart.

Pretties will make me feel better. )

...Damnit, Ubisoft. Damnit. You always know what will grab me.

But I am keeping an eye on you. If I see any more stupid flag collecting missions, I will consider not buying the game and then you'll be really sorry.

Auuuuugh I'm a fangirl, and I don't even want to be.

Okay, as well as being Game Music What I Think Is Awesome, this will be part of my contribution to the Replenish Baco's Music Library Initiative! NOT MY ONLY ONE I HOPE, but yeah, Baco, I'll gladly reupload any songs I've given you.

Misc. Part 2: I hope you like skeletons. )

Oh my god.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have come to a revelation.

Now consider Assassin's Creed.

It:

- Means well.

- Is very smart.

- Is equally stupid.

- Yes, simultaneously.

- Rambles on and on without really saying anything.

- Is so very pretty.

- Hinges upon science (or rather, 'science').

- Is still kind of good for all that.

My conclusion?

Assassin's Creed is the video game version of Mohinder Suresh.

This week has not been a good week, for many people and various reasons. I consign it to history! May it rot there!

Anyway, some other things.

-I have finished my Christmas shopping! Most of it is books or DVDs...in fact, I think all of it is, but I'm sure the recipients will enjoy them. I'M NOT UNIMAGINATIVE SHUT UP, THEY ARE GOOD MOVIES/SERIES/BOOKS. On that note, uh, what is the etiquette for LJ Christhanukkwanzolstice? I seriously have no idea.

-My female PC in Mass Effect has sexual tension with everyone. Even the women. Even the aliens. It's hilarious and bizarre.

-I replayed Grim Fandango and remembered its fantasticness! There's a lot of it. I also discovered the fate of a particular character, something I hadn't seen in previous playthroughs, which was an oddly poignant moment, and got Manny to do an awesome little monologue that made me want to give him a hug. I may gabble an awful lot about my love of Garrett and similar, but there's still a place in my heart for short, vaguely weird skeletal salesmen with Spanish accents and mysterious pasts.

-I. I don't even know.

-This, however, is genius.

-...Goddammit, Altair, I didn't want to like you.

Today, bopping to 'White Wedding' on the way home from work, I walked into a swarm of very tiny insects. (Exclusive Audio Clip: "Start agaaaaACKACKACKBUGSAUGHAKDHSHHAGGG!")

There are many things in this world that may throw off one's groove. I could have lived without experiencing this one.

*disconsolately picks bugs from hair*

On the positive side, I finished Assassin's Creed! And Altair has grown on me, somehow. He did develop as a character, just as I was hoping, and it's hard to really hate him after all he goes through. (I wonder how much of this is genuine development, and how much is from the art book and strategy guide - there's so much to miss in this game!) Besides, I've fangirled worse. Zachary Quinto does actually act and speak as though he wasn't attacked by ravening contractions as a child, though.

Of course I didn't buy the strategy guide just for the art book that comes with it. What do you take me for, some kind of obsessive?

I bought the art book. The strategy guide was just a detail. Mmmm, pretty arhts.

Before I go on, you guys should know that I'll be stating outright some stuff that's only been hinted at in the advertising material. Pretty much all of it is easily guessed, but if you haven't been following it as obsessively as I have and want to go in clean, you should probably stop now. )

Completed Memory Blocks: 3

Combat deaths: 6

Drowning deaths: 19

Unnecessary Leaps of Faith: 10

Guards gratuitously punched: 4

Snarky remarks regarding A.I. that's...not: 6

"Wheeeeee!" count: 11

Repetitions of Altair's lines in Garrett impression to see if it makes them more awesome: 3

Attempts made to blend in real life by pulling up my hood and assuming Altair's 'prayerful' stance: 7

Failed attempts: 7

First things first: Ubisoft has released a trailer for Assassin's Creed that looks suspiciously like an extremely professional fanvid. Check it out. This game is looking so good, oh man. And I am finding myself even more intrigued by Altair than before – he seems to be...reverent. That's interesting.

(And if anyone can find me that song, I would be eternally grateful. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?)

Replaying The Dark Project is lots of fun and also instructive, and to prove I will ramble spoilerifically about it behind the cut. )

In conclusion, listening to audio commentaries for animated movies has made me realize something. I love animators. They dork out over the most hilariously random things.
